1968 was a long time ago. I'm willing to bet that King, as ahead of the curve as he was on economic issues, may well have seen reparations for descendants of enslaved people as appropriate, realistic, and overdue. However, King knew that, as reluctant as American whites were to have even physical proximity to us, they sure weren't going to be cutting any checks on our behalf. You can be simultaneously a "dreamer" and a person who know what works. He could tell us himself what he believes now if the people who so claim to love him had let him live.
