A Plea, a Prayer, and a Plaint for Critical Thinking
Can Common Sense Please Make a Comeback?
Let me shout it from the rooftops: “I’m sad as hell, and I can’t take it anymore.”
If you write for, or read, Medium, then you’re already in the choir I shouldn’t be preaching to, and our hymnals are already on the same page. However, perhaps you’ll find a way to pass this one on to the people who need to hear it. I wish Critical Thinking were more in practice. If we can’t have the actual practices of Critical Thinking, then can we at least have some common sense?
May I share?
I visit right-wing websites on occasion so that I can see what the other side has on its mind. You know, friends close, enemies closer, and all that. They are generally prevaricating, often unhinged, and always a threat to sanity. While I don’t consider myself a troll, I feel that it’s incumbent on me to point out falsehoods and fallacies as a service to their readers so that they get some exposure to a more reasoned point of view.
An Example
An announcement from a black, right-wing, Republican candidate for a Congressional seat in a state I won’t name, appeared on my Facebook page. Don’t ask me how. It caught my attention because it began with a vehement, shouting video.
