As I love to remind people, "Affirmative Action" means "going beyond the usual suspects." However, some folks find even that too much to bear. "Equal Opportunity" means just that. After you cast a wider net for applicants, then everyone gets a fair chance.

White naysayers have been twisting the meaning of those terms for decades in their efforts to convince their followers that Affirmative Action means filling positions with any old body until you reach your "quota."

I also like to remind folks that when they complain about candidates who are "more qualified" losing out on positions, anyone who meets the MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for a position is, therefore, qualified. Period.
