David, I AM an upper-middle-class black person, which is why I know that the discrimination against us is just as real, and just as ugly, as the discrimination shown to people at less-advantaged economic levels. As I pointed out in my essay, many white folks are downright angry when we show up in places they think we shouldn't be. If they could just BUY their way out of having to see us, then they'd have it made. I see Miss Butterfly's point; I just know that her half-full glass is still half full. I want my glass all the way to the top, especially because the glasses of so many others are full already.
"In and out the same door." Oh, my. What progress. And what exactly are "acting black" and "acting white?"
