Folks, whenever people say that there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans, I go all the way back to the election of 2000. Black people have stayed home, generally out of apathy, in Presidential elections, and it has cost us. Yes, life in the United States would have been different had Al Gore won. George W. Bush appointed John Roberts, as you say, practically a one-man squad of voter suppression. Life in the US would REALLY have been different had Hillary Clinton won, but people who needed to go out stayed home, thus giving Donald Trump the opportunity to appoint THREE conservative justices.
Voting isn't about the President alone. It's about an entire network of appointments and decisions which have an impact on our lives for decades. When we vote, we're not voting to save Democrats, we're voting to SAVE OURSELVES. "Elections have consequences" is almost trite these days, but one of the consequences is the current Supreme Court. Let's rob the conservatives of their opportunity to instill their backlash into law.
Thank you for writing, Ms Gaines.
