Herschel Walker, please. People who would vote for Herschel Walker, please. Black people who would vote for Herschel Walker, please, please, please please! Stop getting played. That’s right. Herschel’s getting played, and he’s taking you with him. Don’t vote for him, and please, please don’t stay home.

Full disclosure. I’m a die-hard Democrat. I’m a super voter who has hardly missed voting in an election, primary, general, or off-year, in more than 45 years. Politics were a childhood interest. (Seriously.) My nighttime dreams are about the Future of Democracy. I have written checks and letters, held signs, knocked on doors, and made calls. I’m not an insider, but I’m well-informed. I’m taking that privilege now to do a little “speechifying.”

I don’t live in Georgia. Why should I even care?

I’m about to tell you, but I’m going to let my friend, YelloPain, tell you first.

There are 435 seats in the U.S. House and 100 in the Senate. Every one of those seats means something to you no matter where you live. The Senate is currently a 50–50 tie between parties*, and without that tie there would be no American Rescue Plan, no Inflation Reduction Act, and no Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
