I agree with what you've written. I'm the type of person who starts conversations with others all the time; I'm simply reporting on the behaviors I encounter. As I said in my essay, I'm often in white spaces where I'm both noticed and ignored. I have decades-long friendships with people of many hues, but we folks of color should not be the ones who have to insert ourselves into social situations; folks SHOULD notice their behavior and correct it.
