I am old enough to remember when there was prayer in public schools. Among the works we recited was Psalm 100, which I remember particularly for the line, "It is he who has made us, and not we ourselves." Whenever whites demean us as a people or blame "Black culture" for what they consider, our failures, I think of that line. Much of what we are is their invention. They claim not to like it, but they continue to produce the same thing.
