I confess to being an outlier among people of color in that I am agnostic and like to remind others that we live in the here and now and should not depend on some future transcendental existence. That being said, I believe that a God, or gods, have nothing to do with Derek Chauvin either here on Earth or later. His consequences are all earthbound. George Floyd's friends and families can make up their own minds, but I urge them to consult their own hearts and not those of any entity, in kstitution, or philosophy that tells them that "forgiveness" is some positive action and reflects a higher consciousness on their parts. We've had enough of "forgiving" the oppressor. We need for them to face up to their crimes and for society in general to live up to its responsibility to seek justice for us. I'm not forgiving "nobody," and that doesn't make me a bitter person. It means that I'm appropriately angry at someone's unspeakable actions and I want them to know that I hold them responsible.
