I don't know why I'm just seeing this article, but I have now, and I know whereof you speak. My white husband knows how the world works, so we let him register at the B&Bs, speak up at the hospital, show up first for restaurant reservations, and so on. When we are with our white husbands, we enjoy "honorary white status," in the way South Africa employed it. Of course, he gets "honorary black status" when he's with me!
