I feel you. Our beautiful 1894 home has two beautiful fireplaces, original woodwork, and no insulation. During our first winter, we plugged in our Christmas tree and every light in the house went out. You do not want to have to call an electrician at 5:00 p.m. on a Friday. I'm not going to tell you our winter heating bills, because you simply wouldn't believe me. However, I know you understand!

As for those visiting mice, I presume that's why so many Victorian home owners have cats.
