I know if few, if any, people who believe that WNBA salaries should be equal to NBA salaries. We know the entertainment value of the NBA. NBA salaries are ridiculously high, and they should serve as a reminder to all of us of how we privilege entertainment over learning and men over women. Just because some people are not entertained by the WNBA does not mean that their lack of appreciation should determine WNBA players' salaries.
That having been said, the inequality is egregious, telling, and shameful. Most of us weren't even aware of the pay disparity between the leagues until Briner was arrested. Can we pay WNBA players and staff at least $500,000 a year? They are equally talented, and considering the amount of time they must play during the year in order to earn a half-way decent salary, they certainly work harder.
