I know that "most people" don't get involved, which is why I do. I have no training in emergency intervention, but I have enough training as a former classroom teacher, believe it or not, how not to escalate, and how to dissassociate oneself "from the moment" so as not to let the adrenaline take over.
I'm not claiming to be special. What I hope is that others both get training in some sort of intervention, AND, especially, that they not lose control when dealing with Black men. I'm betting that Penny would have been less forceful with a white man or woman. I'm making no bets on how he would have treated a Black woman, as our lives and safety are not the first thought of most Americans.
