"I think that skin color would become the default substitute."

Teed, that's the problem. If so many claim that we're not a racist society, then why is skin color the default for deciding which side is the "right" side? The fact remains that four white men ganged up on a black man, and we have no way to gauge how many other white people were close enough to intervene on his behalf. Look at that video again. There were plenty of white people who jumped in on behalf of the bullies.

It was quite clear who initiated the violence and it should have been clear to every onlooker who needed help and who didn't. You can't convince me that only other black people were close enough to help. I don't know how the police would have behaved (though I can guess) if a white woman hadn't explicitly pointed out the instigators and insisted that they be handcuffed. Would they have taken the same information as seriously if it had been conveyed by a black witness? Why not?

I'm not trying to prove victimhood. What I am saying is that there were manywhite people who had a chance to prove that the default of someone's worthiness for assistance should not be skin color, but it seems as though it was.
