I try hard to be optimistic, but I guess my default mode is realism. My realism tells me, simply through observation, that we are going to have to start looking out for ourselves, even as we try to participate in the common good. Too many people don't understand that the well is running dry. They need to plan for their figurative water now. Good on you for saying it, although it's so hard to hear.
