If Democrats had not been either apathetic or angry in 2016 and voted for Hillary Clinton, then this wouldn't be an issue. However, many black voters weren't "enthused," (not my word) post-Barack Obama, and stayed home. Many Bernie advocates, still certain that Bernie could have won in 2016, stayed home out of spite. 2016 was too much like 2000, when Democrats who were "too good to vote for the Establishment Candidate," voted for Ralph Nader and gave us the narrowest election loss, if it was really a "loss," in history. I guess we didn't learn our lesson then.

We don't have a large enough majority, even now, to guarantee that things will go our way. The answer is not to "teach the Democrats a lesson" by withholding our votes. Whenever we have done that, then the lesson has been "Republicans win."
