If you are a young, black child, you don't have to ask adults about "race." You see the differences in how people are treated early on. In the name of protecting children from uncomfortable truths adults don't want to talk about, we postpone talk about sex and reproduction and we get books banned. Children are old enough. It's adults who are the cowards.
