I'm going to get into trouble for discussing the black church again, but most people of color don't know HOW they feel about queerness; they only know that it's "against their religion," so they're not supposed to accept it. We have long had queens and masculine-looking women in our numbers. Queerness is not anything new, and we need to get away from dangerous religious "groupthink" and refer to the prejudice we ourselves have suffered because of unthinking acceptance (generally by osmosis) of a dominant point of view.

Being black is the merest skin covering among the many qualities we have as individuals. It is not the only thing we are. Non-cis people are different in one way only, but that way does not define all that they are. As black people, we'd better start figuring out what unites us rather than what divides us, particularly when that division has no basis in common sense.
