I'm gonna make some enemies here, but blacks need to re-think their "conservatism." Much of our conservatism comes from religious tenets we need to question, but don't, or intolerance for other disenfranchised communities, when we ought to know better. Further, the reason that blacks support the military is because it is a job-creation program more than it is a defense program. If young black men believed they had other options, then our over-representation as bomb fodder would surely end.

We have developed a dangerous passivity about our own lives, often asking "Jesus to take the wheel," or asserting that "it's in God's hands" when we need to make our own hard choices. We know how to drive!

I suppose I should be satisfied that MOST of us refuse to fall for the Republican trap, but I'm disturbed by the increasing number of men of color who have convinced themselves that something in the Republican Party speaks to them. What could it be?

Like I said, I'm expecting enemies.
