It is "grown folks' business" to uplift our children in every way possible. I understand what you mean (hey, I AM Black) but perhaps we should spend less time when we're around children spilling the tea. When we recognize that there is such a gap in interactions and language development, then we need to do more to address it. I do not want to attend another gathering where people say "Children are our future" if they're not willing to do the work. I understand respecting culture, but we need to be aware of when it hurts rather than helps.
