It's not fair to tell someone who is prejudiced against that they have to work harder. It's not that we're unaware; our parents have told us this for generations. It's just that when one of the oppressors says it, it feels more like taunting and less like advice. Our "success" is still the exception, even after having proven ourselves again and again.
