I've said this in other venues. Any black person who ever wished to be white, whether for a lifetime or a second, has not really wished to be "white." What they want, and I include myself here, is to be treated the way white people are treated, because we've been aware of the difference since, well, since awareness.

I like being me. Frankly, I wouldn't trade it. However, we all know that the essence of us is still "us," but that the essence in a dark skin doesn't get respect from some people, and, yes, it darn sure gets tiring.
