Kamala Harris is as “Foundationally Black” as Everyone Else. Now, Just Leave her Alone and Help her Win.
Will all of the “Blacker than thou” people please leave Kamala Harris alone? We’ve all seen essays here from indignant people who attempt to one-up the rest of us with black skin by claiming to be more “Foundationally Black,” “Fundamentally Black,” Authentically Black,” “genuinely African American”, as opposed to “not genuinely African-American.” (What you talkin’ ‘bout Willis?”) Who gets to decide that we are more so and less so?
Don’t make the mistake that anti-immigrant people make. There is more to “America” than the United States and there is more to being African American than having enslaved ancestors of color in the United States.
North America, Central America, and South America are all the Americas.
Slave ships didn’t make stops only in the future and current United States. They made stops all over the Americas. More of us were dropped on islands than on the continental mainland. If you were enslaved in Cuba or the Caribbeans, the air was hotter, the sun was stronger, and your life was guaranteed to be “nasty, brutish and short.” Your death was either due to your body dropping from hunger and exhaustion, or it was quick and violent.
