"... layering of a woke agenda...?" Please explain. The Bridgerton series is based on fiction. The author and Shonda Rimes collaborated on the series. White people can get offended at diversity and creativity when they have been, inaccurately, playing characters of color for decades. I'm still waiting for white people to get all het up about that, but, thus far, no one has come forward.
I remember decades ago when "non-traditional" casting became a feature of live theater. It wasn't about "layering a woke agenda" upon an audience but understanding that a fictional character, a role, does not necessarily have to be portrayed by someone who looks a certain way.
The play, Alexander Hamilton, is a case in point. Sure, it's non-traditional casting can be seen as something of a "gimmick," but no one walks away believing that Hamilton was actually a Latinx man or that Jefferson was black.
