Life as part of an "inter-racial" couple is different if the woman is black and the husband white. Whether people want to or not, they have to extend his privilege to me because being white, male (and a Ph.D) cannot be devalued.
He was quite familiar with black life, though he knew nothing of popular black culture because he knows nothing of popular white culture. If there were a category of "Most likely to marry a person of another 'race,'" then he would have won it even in childhood.
Interestingly, we have more differences due to the male/female dynamic than the black/white dynamic, which isn't to say that it never comes up.
