O.M.G. O.M.G. twice. I have been married to my white husband for nearly 38 years, and I, too, see white privilege up close daily. (Well, less so since we're inside all the time!) Thank you for writing this.

What troubles me whenever I share my thoughts is how so very many white people are eager to "explain away" my experiences or accuse me of looking for offenses. These are not our "perceptions" or "interpretations," which is how they like to characterize them. These are the daily data we live.

I rarely reveal my marital situation in my writing; I refer to my husband only as my husband, or "Steadfast Mister." I tend to keep that one in my pocket because I want to see how people respond without my revealing I know more about their lives then they think I do. We are, to some degree, "spies" in the enemy camp.

May I be so bold as to share some of my experiences with you?
