Oh, I don’t know — an incredibly racist and recalcitrant Republican majority, perhaps? Before you respond that President Obama had a clear Democratic majority for his first two years, he didn’t. The Al Franken Minnesota Senate seat was uncertain for MONTHS before he was seated, and Ted Kennedy died. If the Republicans wouldn’t even approve the Capitol (chunks of which were falling onto the street below) how was he supposed to get “something substantive and transformative for African Americans,” when he couldn’t do that for most Americans, regardless of skin color? Perhaps he had additional rage just because of that. I like to mix my impatience with a bit of regard for the facts on the ground.
