Oh my God, I hope that you are a bot, though it might be difficult to be one and get through Medium. I genuinely regret that there are some on the so-called “Left” who have said unreasonable things about Trump supporters, but I also believe that these people are not mistaken. Trump supporters, in fact, either appear to believe his lies (which makes them frighteningly gullible) or, still knowing that they are lies, they accept them. That makes them hypocritical. What good, right-minded people support someone who disrespects women, is a sexual predator, lies to and cheats the taxpayers every day, has ABSOLUTELY no qualifications to be President of anything, much less the United States? Given all of the evidence of his business failures, who could defend the position that he either was or is a successful “businessman?” I recall the number of people who stated “He says what I’m thinking” when asked why they supported Donald Trump. I’ll tell you; as a person of color, when I heard that many people essentially saying that they were racist and xenophobic, I quaked in my high-heeled shoes.

Though you point to one instance of a left-wing person attempting to harm Trump supporters, you and I both know that the majority of the harm and hurt have come from people on the right. Acts of bullying and racial hatred have increased in this man’s name, but I do not blame him entirely. I place blame on the Republicans in Congress, who decided in January 2009, that they would cut off the country’s nose (not to mention fairness, honesty, justice, any pretense of integrity, and common sense) in order to spite Barack Obama’s face. Those “leaders” demonstrated to those who could barely contain their social animosity, that it was okay to act out, and boy, did they. They freaked out at the thought of a black man having the ultimate position of power and they were willing to do anything to thwart him. I have a very difficult time believing (as should most of you) that the same people who castigated Barack Obama for being forced to use executive power because the Congress did nothing, now allow Donald Trump and his craven and incompetent cronies, to rip freedom from our hands the way a bully snatches a nerd’s homework. YOU ALL KNOW IT, yet you give this man a pass. If Democrats sound mean and intolerant, it’s because we’ve decided that we need to act like the bullies. It’s not our end, as it is for the real bullies, but if it must be a temporary means to get that metaphorical homework back, then we’ll do it. Our vision of playground, or of the country, is much fairer and communitarian than yours.

Seeing the thoughts of many of the commenters on this page, I have renewed fervor to support more Democratic candidates at every level of politics, register more voters, provide more Trump supporters with facts and statistics that refute their silly claims, and work every day to get this man and many select Republicans out of office. I’m old enough to know that we can’t change people’s hearts and minds, but I’m darn sure going to do everything I can to drive their hatred underground. Maybe once it’s underground, we can figure out how to eradicate it, but I’ll gladly return to civil discourse, a competent and respected president, and people in charge who want to form a more perfect union. See you in November.
