OMG. I'm with you. I read a similar article on The Political Insider, which was 99% lies and innuendo concerning the teacher's strike. The writer called the teachers "greedy" and asked why they didn't "strikek" on the weekends, so that families would not be "inconvenienced." He mentioned an "average" salary figure of $49,600 annually and asked the read when they last got a 23% raise.
I responded to the article stating that teachers were supporting non-teachers and support staff who made $25,000 annually. I explained that you can't strike on a day you don't regularly work--you don't work that day! I explained that the 23% raise was over FIVE YEARS, and that $25,000 is less than the total of a year's rent in Los Angeles and many other major US cities.
You would have been proud to see my thoughtful and well-reasoned response. Unfortunately, the site nevre posted it, which is generally its response to my pointing out the context which it so regularly fails to supply. Unfortunately, these readers don't care about either facts or context. They simply want to be enraged for the sake of being enraged. Information is not part of the equation.
