OMG. What a small world it is. MY elementary school was LaSalle Elementary School in Washington, DC. I am enough older than you that all of my teachers were white until 6th grade, but I'm surprised at how much Black History I learned from some of those teachers. Five of my seven parental aunts, and two uncles, were DC Public Schools teachers. By the bye, I am also a retired first-grade teacher, but I didn't teach in DC.
