On the Democratic side, Al Franken has a Harvard degree and is the author of two non-fiction books. I'm not seeing anything close on the Republican side. Sorry to call names, but Americans are shallow, and often conflate wealth and celebrity with competence. Why don't we want to live vicariously through smart people?
