Prejudice implies belief, but we both know that prejudice does not reside in belief only. The reason we know that someone is prejudiced is because of their actions, or, depending on the circumstances, lack of same. I could walk around thinking inhumanely all of the time, but it would not be until I either caused some harm or refused to prevent harm that you might infer my prejudice. The original writer of the essay included the word "power" in his description, because it is those with power, and all whiteness is power, who perpetuate racism.

I ..."fan the flames of racism?" Because you characterize my position as "inhumane" does not make it so. In fact, most people I know, of all hues, consider me quite the cooling agent on most racial matters. You don't know me, my nature or my actions, so you are, of course, welcome to believe what you wish. Shalom and Salaam.
