Raffey, I'm sure it wasn't easy to be Jewish and move from a familiar neighborhood. However, as far as I know, most Jews moved to neighborhoods where they still had a community of people like them. I believe that few would choose to move to neighborhoods where they would likely be treated unfairly.
I certainly understand what you're talking about, though. I'm old enough to have gone to school when there was still prayer in classrooms, and I don't know what Jewish kids' experiences were. I do know that the Jewish teacher I had left the room, and another teacher was brought in to lead our morning prayer. There was never a happier kid than me when prayer was no longer conducted in public schools.
