Sir, social and economic realities are social and economic realities. Women understand that a family's social standing, except in very rare cases, is based upon the husband's education, income, and perceived status. In the past, before women were more equal, men married "down" on the social scale, while women married "up." Nowaday, it is rare that either partner marries "down" when women are expected to enter a partnership with status of their own. That "status" not only includes education and income, but also an unusual level of beauty, i.e., a "basketball wife."

Your sons have backbones. They also have an unflinching gaze when it comes to social realities. It's not you. It's centuries of social conditioning.
