Sometimes white women are not trying to placate white men. When they realize that people of other "races" are equally, if not more intelligent, capable, talented, what have you, the recognition of their privilege and an existential threat to their own self worth causes them to act defensively rather than expansively or fairly. It is a difficult thing to discover that you're "not all that" in the first place.
