Thank you, Arturo. I wanted to see how long it took before someone said, not asked, that the police, and other armed law enforcement stood there holding their useless weapons while nearly two dozen people died. They did it because the victims were brown. The victims were brown. The victims were brown.
Many people who consider themselves "safe" because they're recruited as "white-adjacent" when their numbers are needed have to think about how they're not considered when their "adjacent" lives are compared to actual white lives. No, those folks were not going to put their lives in danger for brown children. There may have been confusion, but there was not that much confusion. There may have been "breakdowns in information," but there were not that many of those either. What was most present was racism, pure and simple. We don't risk our lives for brown students. When their brown parents show their love and concern and embarrass us with their bravery, then those brown parents are not victims, but are perpetrators as well.
You have given folks a lot to think about. I hope they're brave enough to consider it.
