Yes, the King Birthday Holiday is the time when the public remembers his non-violent advocacy only for black people, but forgets his more radical stances, as you say, the intersection of race and class, which could have, potentially, given him a larger following, even of those who were not Civil Rights supporters. Americans have a tendency to do that with radicals; turn them into watered-down "warm fuzzies" acceptable for reverential elementary school assemblies.
