Thank you very much for making it clear from the start that the issue is not fear of black men, but of contempt for them. When George Floyd was killed, a prosecutor I know stated that had it been a golden retriever on the ground with an officer's knee on its neck, the bystanders would likely have rushed the officers to save the dog. However, it was only a black man, and the people lynching him were not only appointed officers of the law, but self-appointed executioners, certain there could be no punishment for acting as they did. In his own eyes, Officer Chauvin was "putting down" a "monster." He was not torturing and executing another human.
Time and again it happens, and, sadly, we are surprised when we see post-mortem justice done.
