“That doesn’t negate the fact that Markle gleefully benefited from being racially ambiguous."

What? Is Meghan Markle in any way responsible for how she looks? Is she responsible for the way that others, including white folks, have treated her? She benefited "gleefully" from being racially ambigous? Her looking the way she does is a "slap in the face" to me? So, by McDuffie's way of thinking, anyone who lives an existence as better-looking, smarter, or more talented than me, is a slap to my face? Meghan Markle isn't slapping me in the face. White people, or others who practice colorism, are the ones slapping me in the face. It's what they're choosing to do to me; not what I'm asking them to do to me.

Markle did not grow up in "Whitinsville." She grew up as a black girl with a black mother, with light brown skin, and quite curly hair. She was identifiably black. Trust me, even as "ambiguous" as she may have been, she experienced her share of racism. She has simply not experienced it in as large a venue as an entire nation.

What Markle did not expect was the degree of toxic race hatred she received at the hands of the British public. She, obviously, used Black Magic to enchant a naive and hapless Harry and steal him from the arms of a more deserving white woman. She was spoiled (who's more spoiled than a princess?) and demanding. Black people, after all, are not entitled to be demanding. In fact, for us, even asking is being considered demanding. She was criticized for everything she did, even if they were exactly the same things that Princess Kate had done. No one is ready for that.

McDuffie does not come off well. She sounds either naive, or she is, inexplicably, envious, or even angry, about characteristics over which neither she, nor Markle has control. She is not proving her "solidarity" with darker women. She is engaging in her own form of colorism, and she needs to look twice at what she's written to see what she reveals about herself.
