The best thing Americans can do would be to make political statements by buying less, period. We make no distinction between our wants and our needs, and we prefer quantity over quality. I try to avoid goods made in China (even gadgets) and it is not always easy. However, it is easy to think about desires versus necessities and what statements your purchases make. It's just hard to have the discipline to stick to the bette r choice.
