There are those who wish to push "left," but the quiet folks in the "center" believe that if they just behave themselves, then the right will throw them some muffin crumbs. I don't know how it happened (I wish I did) but the right has managed to make the majority of those in the US believe that any hint of social or economic equality is some evil form of "ism," and despite their lived experience, they continue to believe in the evilness of the other "isms."
