This attitude from men has all sorts of repercussions for black women, both personally and in a social and larger political context. Jakes is correct when he asks men to "step up." Women have often had to be "tough" (though there's nothing wrong that) because men have often just walked away. Are we supposed to take to our beds waiting for the next manly man to come along, or do we do what we have to do in order to keep on living?
Unfortunately, this attitude of superiority is what has caused more black men to vote Republican. Their gender superiority, misogyny, and desire to emulate rich white men overwhelms their racial, economic, and social solidarity. That kind of attitude, writ large, spells doom for us as a people and as a people within an often hostile country. Guys, you need to be smarter than that.
