This isn't a brag, it's just a fact. You must have seen the meme that says teaching is the only profession where you "steal" supplies from home to take to work. Together, my husband and I probably spent an average of $500 a month on our classrooms, not counting the "September" expenses alone.
Parlaying a job into a get-rich-quick scheme? Now that I'm retired, I tutor; some free and some at what I know is underpricing for my skills. It's what teachers do though, isn't it?
