This may be a terrible and terrifying thing to say, but I'm putting it out there anyway. I used to try to give white people more of the benefit of the doubt concerning racism, but considering the irrational support for Donald Trump and the unhidden racism people have displayed since Barack Obama became president, I wait for folks to demonstrate their allyship before I assume it. There are just too many flagrant haters out there now. We can't afford to misplace our trust.
