Too darn often, as in the cases of Ronald Reagan, Jesse Ventura, Arnold Schwarzanegger, and Donald Trump, people equate fame, or supposed wealth, with competence. Sometimes the folks who know the most are boring, or not charismatic. We prefer the good, old shiny object, or what seems to be "change," and we shaft ourselves every time.

Sometimes, folks give themselves credit for knowledge, when they're operating in "heard of." They don't know what they're talking about, but they believe that their opinion "is as good as the next person's." No. Your right to your opinion is as good, but your opinion itself is subject to analysis. If it makes no sense, then you need to be told as much.

Then, those of us who know better are either apathetic, or "too smart to engage in the petty politics/practices of 'regular people.'" Shame on us for letting ignorance and arrogance prevail.
