Tucker Carlson knows just what he's doing, but his audience doesn't. Carlson will not engage them on issues of real importance because they don't want issues of real importance. Those are the things that make your head hurt! They prefer not to think, so his riling up indignation about M&Ms or Mr. Potato Head hits them in their sweet spots. Children's books, toys from their youth, candy, and primordial fear of anything having to do with "race" are their issues. If Carlson began offering political insights on intellectual topics, he'd lose his audience so quickly he'd have to file missing persons reports to find them.
Indignation is so much more fun than contemplation. As for me, I wonder why they ever traded in the light brown M&Ms for that ugly blue.
