Unfortunately, "race" trumps economic injustice. White folks prefer "whiteness" to fairness if the fairness removes white privilege. As we've learned since 2008, whites prefer "whiteness" to democracy. They even prefer "whiteness" to progress for all. Racism performs many injuries, but among the worst is making otherwise intelligent people stupid.
