Unfortunately, skin privilege is what will continue to keep working-class whites divided from other working people. The Republicans know this, and they will use the existential fear of losing that privilege to their advantage. If "race" were not used so effectively to divide people, then white folks would have figured this out already. In the U.S., the myth of the American Dream and the continued fear of people of color will continue to dominate political and economic thought.
