Walter, he/they who makes the film calls the viewpoint. You, with your enlightened point of view also know that most White Americans will not patronize a film where the main character is not white. They view a film to identify with the protagonist, in these cases, noble white men who come to see their own flaws and fight to make life "more free." The same is true in literature. The story of people of color must be mediated through the white gaze. (I haven't read through all the comments, but I'm betting that someone is going to berate you for your point of view.)
