Well, we've all been warned. If I'm reading The New Yorker or The Atlantic, I expect to spend 15-20 minutes reading one article. There is something about the medium of the screen, perhaps because we expect its images to be fleeting, that makes a 10-minute read seem long. I write "long" because I know what I want to say. I understand, therefore, that I may not get what I want most; an engaged reader. However, if and when I do get one, then I'm grateful I spent the time making it worth their while.
